According to a new study by Vestiaire Collective, fast fashion just ain't it 👗 ❌ Taking a deep dive into the shopper habits of 13,400 research participants, Vestiaire Collective reached some alarming home truths. “Fast fashion is a false economy. Buying cheap, fast fashion is deceptive – in the end, you end up paying twice if not more,” says Dounia Wone, Chief Impact Officer at Vestiaire Collective, in the report.Vestiaire found that, based on cost-per-wear, it’s actually 33% cheaper to invest in vintage, rather than rely on fast fashion. In the long run, for example, a fast-fashion coat costs £4.16 per wear, while one sourced from Vestiaire works out at £1.40.In fact, the platform’s shoppers were found to wear their shoes 30% more times than fast-fashion shoppers – and their bags 45% more. On average, pre-loved items get 76% more wear than your bog-standard fast-fashion item.Of course, shopping more mindfully is easier said than done – especially under the time constraints of life in late capitalism. We’re not pointing fingers! The question remains: are you willing to make the switch from Klarna impulse cops to archival Prada?#fashion #fastfashion #vintage

Quality over quantity is the simplest solution to all fashion buyers (consumers) shredding also has its own advantages and disadvantages for fashion designers in the market . We find a lot of new brands not surviving the retail knock because of cheap recycled vintage items sold in vintage shops .

These are interesting stats and have for long time been an advocate of slow and considered fashion and keeping products longer and stopping fast fashion! ❤️ - but think this may be a little oversimplified - be interesting to understand things like laundering, micro shredding as % of these products will be synthetics, logistics etc From years in the sector we have to take a holistic approach as this is a complex issue, we often fix one problem and create a whole host of others It would be good to get Brooke Roberts-Islam opinion on this 🤔

Insightful! I’ve actually recently created a project based on fast fashion consumption and how it’s misleading …would love for you to have a look 👀 https://www.instagram.com/conscious_choice_room?igsh=NXh0a21lYjc1MGp1

i've been preaching about this for years my goodness. $50 on three dresses you'll wear twice and donate or trash vs a $150 dress you can wear anytime and is timeless vs something made in the moment to predict a trend.

The quality pieces also often retain good percent of their original value if not go up in case you want to get rid of them at some point. I buy most second hand but definitely rather invest in garments of high quality if I have to buy new.

It is not saving you money and it's just polluting your earth at an incredibly fast rate so it's also costing you precious time, too.

Love it! -- Though I don't think presenting a dichotomy of Klarna vs. archival Prada is setting fast fashion buyers up for successfully changing their behavior

Do we agree with this statement? 🤔YES!It's eye-opening to realize that investing in better quality, though pricier, ultimately proves to be more economical. But how do we keep up with ever-changing trends without overconsuming? One solution is embracing secondhand shopping! 🛍️♻️ By doing so, you can still enjoy fashion trends while actively participating in the recycling process.Remember, when you're done with a garment, give it a new life by passing it on or selling it online. Never throw your clothes away, as they'll end up in landfills. Taking good care of your clothes, regardless of their price, is key to ensuring their longevity and contributing to a more sustainable future. So, let's join hands in making a conscious effort to shop smart, extend the life of our garments, and pave the way for a greener fashion industry! 🌿👗i-D Vestiaire Collective #FastFashion #FashionRecycling #VintageFashion #Vinted #Depop

Vestiaire Collective bans 30 fast fashion brandsVestiaire Collective, a fashion resale platform, has removed 30 fast fashion brands, including H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Mango, and Gap, from its website just ahead of Black Friday. The move is part of the company's three-year plan to gradually eliminate fast fashion brands and raise awareness about the environmental impact of the industry. Vestiaire Collective emphasizes the negative consequences of excessive production and consumption by fast fashion brands, aiming to encourage consumers to choose fewer, higher-quality clothing items. The company believes that second-hand fashion choices can significantly reduce the environmental impact, with 90% of the impact avoided when choosing pre-loved items. Despite the popularity of resale platforms, profitability remains a challenge for businesses in this sector.#FashionResale #SustainableFashion #SlowFashion #FashionImpact #ConsciousConsumer #NoFastFashion

🤡 There are some headwinds impacting the fast fashion's business. As for luxury, there are some consistent concerns about the end of the post-covid shopping binge. Shein partnering with Forever 21 is showing more teeth, which sheds a bright light on many brands' weaknesses, while luxury brands are not meeting consumer expectations re: online experience.2024 will definitely be a challenging year.#fastfashion Yann Rivoallan #shein #zara #hm #luxuryfashion

The fashion recommerce market is experiencing challenges due to the dominance of fast fashion brands like Zara, H&M, and Shein on platforms like Vinted. Despite efforts to promote secondhand shopping as a means to reduce waste and emissions, the prevalence of fast fashion items indicates ongoing overconsumption and rapid turnover. While some platforms and regulations are attempting to combat this trend, fast fashion remains popular, especially among Gen Z. Encouraging a shift towards quality over quantity in consumer habits is essential, as exemplified by initiatives like Eileen Fisher's Seasonal Planner.
